Wikis, which are easy-to-update web sites designed for multiple contributors, are a good way to build up collective wisdom. You could set one up for your class and ask your students to contribute. For example, a history teacher could seed a wiki with a timeline or a list of sub-topics (Race relations, Lincoln, Union Generals Fired By Lincoln, etc.) relating to the U.S. Civil War. Students could then add to the wiki as they study. In the end, they would have created something they all can learn from. You, and any student who cares to, could set up an RSS feed alerting you to additions, subtractions, or edits to pages within the wiki.
Of course, you're looking at an example of a wiki. Barry "watches" changes via RSS.
